PSHE

New with the 2006 revised timetable is a distinct period of Personal, Social and Health Education better known as PSHE. The lessons are delivered alongside Citizenship with the aim of developing responsible, healthy, safe, confident and ambitious young people. Clearly this is a wide ranging brief and PSHE as a subject on the timetable cannot and does not claim to facilitate all of these outcomes. Aspects of pupils personal, social and health education are addressed in other subject areas eg science, food technology and physical education, extra curricular activities and on an individual basis by the schools pastoral system.

Initially in Key Stage 3, our priority is to ease transition to Bradfield with exercises designed to welcome students, address any worries and anticipate any issues they might have relating to their new school. Each year group sees similar priorities eg work experience (careers education) in year 10 and options process in year 9 but there are common themes to both key stages including
• Sex and relationships education
• Drugs awareness
• Health education
• Financial literacy
• Personal safety
• Careers education

Success in PSHE is measured by students
• Ability to communicate effectively, express ideas and discuss issues
• Knowledge and understanding of the work covered
• Their self confidence in a variety of situations
• Their personal success and self esteem
